here is the cab the day i picked it up.
did a few measurements and marked it where it looked like it would work
fired up the sawzall
i made a bunch of butt clamps and started to weld it back up

i bought a 46 merc pickup off of a friend yesterday, i'll post some pics later.
my plan is to build a fenderless, bobber style, i hate to say rat rod, i prefer hot rod!
a bare bones, no nonsense hot rod.
i'll post as i go![]()

i had a local fab shop cut me up some parts on their plasma table
welded it up
started assembling the frame the realized that the tires would stick out too far at the front, time to fire up the sawzalll again
cut about 16" off the front of the frame
another view of mocked up front frame and suspension

when i cut the front frame off i also had to move the body 6" forward of where i had it, i thought the existing firewall would do, i put a new one in.
kicked up the rear frame 20"
mocked up suspension, i'll order my 4 link, shackes, etc today
i'm diggin the mail slot window
started mocking up the front a bit more, this week i plan on making the box, and getting the rest of the mock up complete, perhaps have the body back on the rotisserie by the weekend
here is where i left it yesterday, rad and grille mocked up

I hope you're going to beef up those spring mounts ?
I have a few questions, you cut the frame shorter beause you were thinking the wheelbase was too long ?
Those cabs are small, will you have enough room with the engine shoved that far back ?
Do you have more pictures of the chop ? I noticed some vertical cuts by the back window and I'd like to see more detail on how you did it. The reason I ask is I have the exact same cab, that I may do a chop on at some point.
obviously they will be gusseted, the entire frame needs to be welded as it is mostly just stitched together at this point, once the cab is lifted back off, i will complete the frame.
the wheelbase looked way too long, i don't want that wheels way out front look, i want a stubby bobber look.
there is enough room in the cab, its tight but functional, i'm building a hot rod not a cruiser.
i have more pics of the chop, i'll post when i find them.
Hey man the build looks like it is coming along nicely , is that front frame from macs rats and is it nice stuff to work with ???? how come you put the motor so far back into the cab ?
